    Mountain Scene

    May 31st, 2007

    I have a few minutes before heading to the dentist (only a routine checkup & cleaning, thankfully :) ) so thought I would share this beautiful Mountain Scene card with you created by Keri Lee Serieka.

    Mountain Scene

    The Mountain Scene is one of the stamps from our Signature Series which was taken from one of my grandmother’s autograph books. The original art was drawn in 1944! Keri combined it with the Weave Backgrounder & in my opinion did an excellent job! Thanks Keri!

    Hope you all have a wonderful day!

    P.S. I haven’t forgotten the magazine giveaway for this week - will try to get to it later today.

    Rainy Day!

    May 29th, 2007

    Well today was fit for only ducks or so I thought BUT when I went out this evening to get T-Bone in, him & Bossy were out happily munching grass & the piglets were enjoying some hay.

    Pigs eating hay, you say? Yes, pigs will eat anything. They are not fussy. Bossy & T-bone, however are! They will only eat the soft bits from the alfalfa hay & so their racks get full of stalks. Michael made T-bone a new feeding rack on Saturday so cleaned his stall out & threw it all to the pigs. Here are some of them are munching happily in the rain. Getting a good picture of them is hard as they are still scared of us so run away if we get too close. Now you see, if Richard let me raise our own pigs, we wouldn’t have that problem! Tee Hee ;)

    PigsHayRain

    Pigs3HayRain

    As for Bossy, i really think her udder is getting bigger. It sure looked like it this afternoon so let’s hope she has that baby soon. Here’s T-Bone & her STARING at the dogs who were too close for her liking. We then had to climb up the irrigation ditch & down (runs right through their pasture & is a good 7′-8′ high) which is rather slippery in the wet.

    Bossy & T-Bone

    It was very funny when I got back to the cow barn because Roxy (St Bernard) had obviously been in there chasing chickens but was caught between the gate & the wall when Bossy went in. Bossy was NOT pleased to see her in there & poor Roxy couldn’t escape so I quickly get Bossy her grain so she moved out of the way & Roxy belted into the other half of the barn & had to be persuaded to get out :)

    JemimaPuddle Duck Jemima, Puddle & Duck have now joined Georgie Porgy, Pudding & Pie in the duck pen & Duck (the male) has made it very obvious that Georgie Porgy, Pudding & Pie are ALL girls! Poor things are not quite used to his amorous attentions yet & it is hilarious to see him chasing them around. Maybe he’ll lose some weight. Of course we were amazed that they were all girls.

    Take care & enjoy your week,

    Liz

    I Miss You - Heron

    May 29th, 2007

    Hi there,

    I’d been thinking about the heron for a couple days so tonight decided to put my thoughts into action and hey presto! this is what I came up with.

    HeronCard

    A couple weeks ago Lisa Strahl, our head designer, sent me a card that she had created using markers to stamp rubber with so I decided to use that method on the Heron Stamp.

    First cut Brown card stock to 8 1/2 x 5 1/2″ & fold to create a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ card. I used Prism Paper Marrone from the Rain Forest Match-ums. Stamp the Fishnet Backgrounder using New Canvas Pallette Ink by Stewart Superior.

    Then cut a piece of blue cardstock (I used Nautical Blue Light Prism Paper) 3 1/4″ x 4 1/2″. Stamp the Fishnet backgrounder with Prussian Blue Palette Ink & stamp it in the opposite direction from the brown. Does that make sense? LOL! Just look at the card & you’ll see what I mean!

    Heron RubberUsing Tombow Markers color the rubber the desired colors. I used green for the lily pads, blue for the water & gray for the heron. Once you have finished you will notice that the pen has dried on the rubber. DON’T panic ;)

    Just “huff” on the rubber with your breath & stamp. It comes out beautifully! Sorry it is so hard to see in the picture. Tear the white cardstock & edge with the Prussian Blue Inkpad.

    Stamp I Miss You or whatever phrase you like in the right hand corner by the heron. I wanted to stamp “Great HERON from you!” but Richard thought that was REALLY corny & we don’t have that stamp anyway :)

    Heron HeadNext punch out an oval & using the same method with the markers stamp the heron’s head. I used my Tombow markers to add the desired colors.

    Edge the oval from the top of the heron’s back all the way to his leg with the Prussian Blue Inkpad. Do NOT edge where his feathers are.

    To create a raised surface just use dots or whatever you may have . I always use mounting cushion cut up small as there is plenty of that around here ;)

    Have a great evening!

    A New Nest

    May 26th, 2007

    Howdy folks!

    How was your Saturday? We spent alot of time in the garden today. Our potatoes have started sprouting so we spread some straw straw around them. I planted 6 more tomato plants & some spinach. Richard put in the irrigations hoses for the trees so they should now continue to grow well.

    Nesting BirdKnow folks that have moved recently or are going to?

    Then you just might want to use the Nesting Swirly Bird & New Nest stamps. Of course don’t forget the Large Paisley backgrounder!

    Yaquina Head

    Asela matched the Wishing you Sunny Days & Yaquina Lighthouse perfectly for this card.Creating a glow from the lighthouse & stormy skies just added character to this card. The backgrounder she used was the Weave - simple yet effective. You could also use this stamp with clear skies and the saying “Have a beautiful day.” Lighthouses, in general, make great cards for all friends & relatives, male or female.

    Enjoy your weekend & let’s not forget to be thankful to all the soldiers & other personnel who are working hard to give us the freedoms we so often take for granted.

    A Little Birdie….

    May 25th, 2007
    Singing Bird

    Sorry I didn’t get more cards loaded yesterday but here you go. The card above is the Singing Swirly Bird, along with the Large Paisley Background & A Little Birdie Told me. This bright card is bound to cheer anyone & the possibilities of what you could write inside is only limited by you.

    The card Asela created for the New Cape Henry Lighthouse uses the cracked glass effect. It came out SO well. She also used her new Fishnet backgrounder & the phrase “You light up my life.”

    New Cape Henry

    Enjoy!

    P.S. Forgot to say that the winner of this week’s magazine & pirate stamps was #10 Comment Kim Leach. You all guessed correctly so thanks for entering but BIG congratulations goes to Kim!

    There’ll be another one next week so keep on stopping by.

    Happy Frog Day!

    May 25th, 2007
    Frog in hand

    Hi all!
    Hope your week has been a good one. Say “Hello” to this Northern Leopard Frog that we met on our walk. Actually Michael & Duchess (black lab) met him & Duchess wanted to eat him. Michael brought him over to us so Daniel could take a look. This pic is of the little fella in my hand.

    **************************************************Frog

    We took him out of danger & dry land and put him in the slough where there is plenty of food & water for him as he was looking a little on the thin side.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Tonight I went to bring T-Bone in. He is such a sweetie & loves being tickled under his chin. I have given Bossy a strict talking to telling her it is time for her calf to be born. Yesterday we saw it moving so we know it is alive. I told Bossy that this weekend would be a good time. Time will tell :)
    I then went to shut in the chickens - we have three different chicken areas. (Fox security so he can’t wipe us out in one go!) The ones in the cow pen are doing really well - the best chicks we have had in a long time.
    In the second pen Mrs Black Chicken has been sat on her eggs nearly 3 weeks!
    MrsChicken
    Can you see that one egg sticking out on the right hand side? She has quite a clutch under her. I’m sure they will not all hatch as we think some of the other chickens push her out the way each day to lay their eggs but hopefully she will be rewarded with some babies. This is the first “real” broody chicken we have since living here. All the others have given up so we are very excited.
    Well the adventures continued as I went up to the other chickens. All the goats bar one came to greet me. Where was Chocolate? I just assumed she must have gone in the barn ahead of everyone else but NO! As I rounded the corner, I saw Chocolate with her head stuck in the far fence. Goodness only knows what she was doing poking her head through the fence high up! It took Richard & I to release her & off she went.
    On a sad note one piglet died this week (always been on the thin side) & today two ducklings died. When Michelle went to let them out two of them decided to run through the chain link before she had a chance to catch them & put them in their pen. Not a smart move on their behalf as Duchess was on the other side. OOPS!
    Lots of jobs to finish up tomorrow. I managed to break the tractor again! Our pastures are in such bad shape (not from us) that somewhere I picked up a piece of wire which has entangled itself around the blades! SO Richard will have to fix that first thing along with the weed whacker that Michael broke last weekend! It’s been such grotty weather this week that we haven’t been out in the garden so I still have seeds & plants to plant.
    Hope you all have a great weekend.
    Asela’s New Images!
    May 23rd, 2007
    One word describes these images & the cards Asela has created - FABULOUS!
    Today saw the release of 13 new images including two backgrounders. Asela has created 8 cards & so I think I will showcase 2 a day on here rather than overwhelming you all at once. Of course if you can’t wait to see them all just head over to the store where you can see them all :)
    If I was you I would also keep an eye on Asela’s Blog as I am sure she’ll be explaining how she created some of these wonderful cards.
    Standing BirdWhat a great gift card this would make. You could put a gift certificate inside, a promise or use it on top of a present. So many possibilities.
    Featuring the new Large Paisley, Standing Swirly Bird & A Tweet for You.
    ******************************************************
    West Quoddy
    As for this card featuring the West Quoddy Lighthouse, the crackle backgrounder & the saying, “May your joys be as deep as the ocean, And your sorrows as light as the foam” what could be more apt. This saying is from our Signature Series which is a series that I started using samples from my great grandmother, my grandmother & mum’s autograph books. When Asela & I were discussing which phrases to put with the lighthouses this one sprung to mind & I am so glad it did. This saying may be old (1910) but it as relevant today as it was back then.
    Enjoy the rest of your day,
    Liz
    Soggy T-Bone
    May 22nd, 2007
    Soggy T-Bone1For some reason T-Bone does not like Richard & now the feeling is mutual! LOL! Richard has said he is NEVER getting him in again! None of us know why as Richard has never been mean to him but here is today’s story:
    T-Bone was put out this morning because the weather was dry. It changed to rain later in the day so Richard decided to be nice to T-Bone & go get him in. Well he opened the barn door to T-Bone’s pasture & somehow T-Bone bolted before Richard got to putting his halter on (this is the second time) & so Richard spent the next 20 mins chasing T-Bone around in the rain with no success!
    A little while later I went out to find him - he was munching grass happily with Bossy close by. I walked right up to him & he let me put his halter on. Then I took these pics to share with you all. What a cutie ;)
    Soggy T-Bone2
    We walked back to the barn & he was happy for a drink & some yummy hay. Bossy then, of course, wanted her grain.
    It’s still raining here so everything is getting a good soaking. The irrigation starts this weekend so that means the mosquitoes will soon be here …. AAGH!
    Richard was 40 today. I bought him a pair of indestructible sunglasses - we’ll see ;) Richard rarely keeps a pair of sunglasses more than a couple of months as he either sits on them, drops them or they “mysteriously” break! LOL! I also gave him a LARGE ShopVac. He’s been on about one for ages to clean out his budgies (parakeets). Now he has in his words, ” a man’s sized vacuum!”
    Take care,
    Liz
